Iran: Anniversary demonstrations on 14 February must be allowed to take place peacefully .
Amnesty International is calling on the Iranian authorities to respect freedom of assembly and
allow peaceful demonstrations in Tehran and elsewhere in Iran on 14 February 2012, amid fears
that the authorities may once again use excessive use of force to quell protests, as has happened
in previous years.
The demonstrations - called by the Coordination Council of the Green Path of Hope - mark the one
year anniversary of demonstrations called by opposition leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi
Karroubi, in support of the people of Egypt and Tunisia which were brutally repressed and left at
least two people dead.
Amnesty International also reiterated its call for the immediate release of Mir Hossein Mousavi and
Mehdi Karroubi, who have been held under unofficial house arrest since 10 and 14 February
2011 respectively. Mir Hossein Mousavi’s wife, Zahra Rahnavard, is also held, while Mehdi
Karroubi is currently held on his own and has been denied any contact with his family since the
day after he told his wife in December 2011 that he believed the upcoming parliamentary
elections would be fraudulent.

Amnesty International is concerned that an ongoing wave of arrests of media workers and bloggers
is intended to limit freedom of expression in the run up to parliamentary elections in Iran
scheduled for 2 March 2012.
The arrests indicate that the Iranian authorities are once again choosing to restrict freedom of
expression and association in an apparent attempt to disrupt public discourse and potential
criticism of the authorities’ record in various spheres including human rights and economic
performance in advance of the start of the election campaign.
Amnesty International is urging the authorities to release all those detained in recent weeks unless
they are promptly charged with a recognizably criminal offence and tried in accordance with
international fair trial standards.

"The complete HTTPS internet protocol in Iran is shut down and following that event , the Iranian are unable to have access to Gmail or Yahoo and other websites and secured internet services."

The report added:
"In the past two months port 443 was more or less slow in speed ,but since Feb.9 it was completely shut down.This port after port 80 or http is one of the most important internet ports. This event effects only the communication with outside Iran and the connection of SSL with inside Iran is still working."

Iran: Arrest Sweeps Target Arab MinorityDozens Held; 2 Have Died in Custody(New York, February 7, 2012) –
Iranian security forces arrested more than 65 Arab residents during security sweeps in Iran’s Arab-majority Khuzestan province since late 2011 according to local activists, Human Rights Watch said today. The Iranian government should immediately charge or release those arrested, Human Rights Watch said. Authorities should also investigate reports by local activists that two detainees have died in Intelligence Ministry detention facilities in the past week.Reports by local activists about security sweeps in the towns of Hamidiyeh, Shush, and Ahvaz indicate that authorities carried out at least some of the arrests in response to anti-government slogans and graffiti spray-painted on public property expressing sympathy for the Arab Spring and calling for a boycott of Iran’s parliamentary elections, scheduled for March 2, 2012. Human Rights Watch received information that Mohammad Kaabi, 34, and Nasser Alboshokeh Derafshan, 19, died in detention facilities run by local intelligence officials in Shush and Ahvaz respectively, apparently as a result of torture. The local activists say that most of those arrested are being held in incommunicado detention.“There has been a blackout inside Iran on this latest round of arrests targeting Arab protesters and activists,” said Joe Stork, deputy Middle East director at Human Rights Watch. “Authorities should immediately divulge the reasons for the arrests, give detainees access to family members and lawyers, bring all detainees promptly before a judge, and hold anyone responsible for torture to account.”Human Rights Watch expressed concern for those in custody. Based on past government actions some of those arrested could be at imminent risk of execution if they are convicted by revolutionary courts of national security crimes including terrorism or espionage, or face prosecution on such charges. Human Rights Watch is not aware of any charges that have been brought in these cases.According to several Iranian Arab rights groups, security forces have since November 2011 arrested at least 18 Arab men in Hamidiyeh, 25 kilometers west of Ahvaz, the provincial capital. The first arrest, on November 28, was of the prominent activist Hasan Manabi, an elementary school principal, and his brother Ghabel. A close friend of Hasan Manabi told Human Rights Watch that security and intelligence forces had arrested him numerous times since 2005. He said that Manabi, who had told the friend about torture and ill-treatment at the hands of intelligence officials following earlier arrests, had decided in late 2010 to seek asylum in Turkey.Manabi’s friend told Human Rights Watch that the Intelligence Ministry summoned and detained Manabi’s wife for several days to pressure him to return to Iran. Manabi returned in September 2011 and introduced himself to intelligence officials in Ahvaz, who interrogated him, then released him after several hours. But on November 28 intelligence agents raided Manabi’s home and arrested him and his brother Ghabel. The authorities have since accused Hasan Manabi of spying for the United States and the United Kingdom, in addition to having ties with Arab opposition groups operating in Khuzestan province.A local Khuzestan activist told Human Rights Watch that the latest round of arrests in Hamidiyeh began when security forces arrested nine Iranian Arabs on January 10 and four more on January 26 and 30. Most are between ages 20 and 28, and some had previously been detained for participating in demonstrations demanding more rights for Iran’s ethnic Arab minority. At least one has been released on bail, the local activist said, and several others have since been arrested.Authorities have also arrested at least 27 people in Shush, 115 kilometers northwest of Ahvaz, in recent weeks. A local activist there said that security forces, including plainclothes members of the Intelligence Ministry, initiated the arrests in response to anti-government slogans and graffiti spray-painted on public property expressing sympathy for the Arab Spring and calling for a boycott of Iran’s parliamentary elections, scheduled for March 2. The activist said that security forces set up checkpoints throughout Shush. After they arrested Jasim Kaabi, his daughter Khadijeh, and his son Mohammad in their home on January 21, he said “people became angry and poured into the streets.” In response, security forces arrested at least 24 men, most of them in their 20s, on January 25 and 26. The arrests took place in Ahmadabad, Khazireh, Davar, and several villages outside of Shush.“For about four days [from January 25] Shush was effectively under martial law, which has since been lifted,” the activist said. “But the city is still under a heavy security presence.”The local activist told Human Rights Watch that Mohammad Kaabi, who was arrested in Shush on January 21, died in custody at a local Intelligence Ministry detention facility. The local activist confirmed reports from other activists that on February 2 authorities from the Shush Intelligence Ministry office contacted Kaabi’s family and informed them that he had died. The official reportedly told the family that authorities had already buried Kaabi’s remains and there was no need for funeral services. They warned the family not to conduct a public mourning service for their son.Prior to news of Kaabi’s death, local activists told Human Rights Watch that 19-year-old Nasser Alboshokeh Derafshan had allegedly died after being tortured on January 30 in an Intelligence Ministry detention facility in Ahvaz. A source close to Derafshan’s family told Human Rights Watch that security forces arrested Derafshan on January 26 for unknown reasons.On January 30, agents from Ahvaz’s Intelligence Ministry called Derafshan’s father and told them to come pick up him up, the source said. When his father arrived at the detention facility, he caught a glimpse of a body inside the ambulance parked there and asked if it was his son, but the authorities denied it. He followed the ambulance to Golestan hospital and discovered that the body in the ambulance was his son’s. The source told Human Rights Watch that Derafshan’s family saw signs of torture on his body, including bruises on his face, neck, waist, and ribs. The authorities claim that Derafshan died of natural causes.The source told Human Rights Watch that authorities have so far refused to return Derafshan’s body to his family.Local activists also told Human Rights Watch that intelligence agents have arrested at least 11 Arab men in and around Ahvaz since February 3. Security forces arrested another 10 Arab men, all of whom are members of the Sunni sect, on January 17, activists said. One of them told Human Rights Watch that security forces, many of them plainclothes agents, are present throughout Ahvaz and the situation there is very tense.Human Rights Watch has received the names of many of those arrested or killed, but has not been able to verify the circumstances of each arrest due to severe government restrictions on independent monitoring and reporting in the province. Human Rights Watch previously called on Iranian authorities to allow independent international media and human rights organizations access to investigate allegations of serious rights violations in the province.“Security operations in Khuzestan province since protests there last April have resulted in the largest number of deaths and injuries since the crackdown that followed the disputed 2009 presidential election,” Stork said. “With the province under an information blackout and the history of secret convictions and executions, we have reason to be very worried about the people the authorities have been snatching up and carrying off there.”

Maryam Malekpour the sister of Saeed Malekpour the Iranian-Canadian sentenced to death by the Islamic Republic Judiciary in a contact w/International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran said:" The latest news that i have from my brother is that ,for the last two weeks he has been under pressure to appear before another television confession and fortunately he has refused to do it and as a result of him not doing ,the security agents threatened him for retaliation arresting me (Saeed's sister).

"Saeed is not guilty and he is one of the best and intelligent student of Sanati Sharif University (He ranked 23 in Metalorgy courses).During three years and plus imprisonment he has been under heavy torture and as a result Saeed's jaw is dislocated and his skull is broken which is obvious. Saeed is not guilty and this is a political game."

Saeed is 36 years old and on 2008 he traveled to Iran for a visit to his sick father but was arrested by security forces . After that; he appeared on Islamic Republic Television on 2009 and admited the charges against himself.Saeed is still in ward number 209 in Evin prison.

Mehdi Khazali a writer and critic to Khamenei-Ahmadinejad regime sent a message from prison:

Doctor Khazali was arrested a month ago and went on hunger strike since 25 days ago. He was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment and 90 lashes, plus 10 years exile to the city of Borazjan.afew days ago it was reported that,Mr. Khazali was bleeding from stomach because of hunger strike and was transfered from ward 350 in Evin prison to prison clinic.As a result of hunger strike he has lost 16 kilos.

Doctor Mehdi Khazali in a letter to friends who asked him to end the hunger strike said:My dear friend ,Instead of asking me to end the hunger strike, aske the regime to end the illegal detentions."

Oppositon groups abroad discuss democracy and election show in Iran !

50 members of the political groups in opposition to Islamic Republic regime in Iran came together by Olof Palme's International Center in Sweden for a two days seminar to discuss about democracy and the coming of the 9th parliamentary election show by regime on March 2,2012.The title for this two days seminar is " United for democracy". According to report the host of this gathering was Olof Palme's International Center and the seminar started on Saturday Feb. 4 and eneded in Sunday Feb.5,2012 under heavy security presence. Journalists’ Families Targeted in Campaign Against Media(New York, February 3, 2012) –

The Iranian government has been intimidating and detaining relatives and friends of foreign-based Persian-language journalists to obtain information or silence them, Human Rights Watch said today. A family member of a BBC reporter whom Iranian authorities arbitrarily detained and held as a hostage for close to two weeks is one of the latest victims in a new wave of arrests against journalists and bloggers prior to parliamentary elections due on March 2, 2012.In mid-January, security forces raided the home of a BBC Persian employee’s relative in Tehran, searched and confiscated their belongings, and transferred the person to Evin prison. Hours later, a man claiming to be the relative’s interrogator at Evin contacted the BBC employee in London, seeking information about the BBC in return for the family member’s freedom. Human Rights Watch has learned that authorities released the detainee on bail several days ago.“Detaining a BBC reporter’s relative seems to be part of a wider campaign to harass Iranian journalists by putting pressure on them and their families,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East director at Human Rights Watch. “It suggests that authorities detained the relative to silence the reporter and the BBC. It also sends a message that the government’s long arm of repression can extend well beyond borders.”A man who claimed he was an interrogator at Tehran’s Evin prison contacted the BBC employee through the internet. The man asked about the employee’s job, and said if the employee cooperated and provided him with contacts and sources at the BBC, the authorities would free the detained family member. Around two weeks later, the authorities released the family member on bail. It is not known whether authorities have charged the family member with a criminal offense, Human Rights Watch said.A BBC staff member who spoke to Human Rights Watch expressed concern for the targeting of journalists’ family members. “My colleagues and I at the BBC have been exposed to almost daily insults and personal attacks on various pro-government websites and blogs inside Iran, but this is really a red line for us, and we can’t stay silent,” the journalist said. “Our families should not be victimized because of our personal decisions to work for the BBC. Nor should they become a pawn in a larger political game between Iran and other countries.”The BBC decided to publicize the campaign against its employees and their family members and friends in Iran during a news broadcast on February 2. During the broadcast, Sadeq Saba, the head of BBC Persian, said that, during the past few weeks, Iranian authorities had intimidated, interrogated, and arrested several family members and friends of BBC Persian employees in an apparent campaign to silence BBC Persian. He also said there is evidence suggesting that some of those interrogated or detained may have been forced to participate in televised confessions that they worked or cooperated with BBC Persian inside Iran; he flatly denied that BBC Persian has any presence inside Iran. Saba told Human Rights Watch that during the past few weeks the pressure against family members and friends of BBC employees has intensified. He said the Iranian government’s actions were “unprecedented” and “inhumane.”Iranian authorities have been particularly sensitive to the role of BBC Persian television, which launched operations in January 2009, because of its extensive coverage of the disputed 2009 presidential election. During the post-election crisis, BBC Persian television conducted hundreds of telephone interviews with protesters and witnesses who provided accounts of deaths, injuries, and arbitrary arrests carried out by security forces. Since June 2009, the authorities and pro-government websites have repeatedly attacked the BBC and anyone inside or outside the country whom they believe works for or cooperates with the British news outlet. On September 17, 2011, Iranian security forces arrested six independent filmmakers for allegedly cooperating with BBC Persian on a documentary. They transferred them to Evin prison’s notorious Ward 240, which the Iranian Intelligence Ministry controls, but later released them.Human Rights Watch has also documented jamming and interference of satellite feeds by Iranian authorities of BBC Persian, Voice of America, Deutsche Welle, and other foreign-based Persian-language broadcasts. In May 2010, Ezatollah Zarghami, the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (Iran’s state-run broadcast company), publicly acknowledged that his government engages in jamming of foreign broadcast satellites. Human Rights Watch has monitored numerous pro-government websites run from inside Iran, including the Young Journalists’ Club, which regularly post articles, blogs, and messages containing personal attacks against individuals who work for BBC Persian.The arrest and intimidation of family members of BBC Persian employees takes place amid escalating political tensions between Iran and the United Kingdom. On November 29, protesters breached the walls of the UK embassy compound in Tehran apparently in response to an announcement that the UK would sanction Iran’s central bank and push for a European Union boycott of Iranian oil. Following the attack, the UK recalled its ambassador and shut down its embassy in Tehran.During the past few weeks, Human Rights Watch has received information that authorities may be holding at least two other journalists and bloggers, detained during the recent wave of arrests, in Ward 2-A, which Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps control. On January 15 and 17, security forces arrested Parastou Dokouhaki and Marzieh Rasouli respectively. They have detained several other journalists and bloggers during the past three weeks. The arrests come amid repeated warnings by senior officials that Iran’s enemies would seek to destabilize the country during the March parliamentary elections. Human Rights Watch has received information suggesting that authorities may have arrested Dokouhaki and Rasouli in an attempt to link them to BBC Persian.On January 24, Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi announced that security and intelligence forces had uncovered and disrupted various plots to undermine the legitimacy of the upcoming parliamentary elections. He claimed that the “link between the seditionist elements and the state’s enemies has already been established and there is lots of evidence [to support this].” It is not yet clear whether the arrests of family members of BBC staff, along with others who have been detained since the beginning of the year, are connected to Moslehi’s January 24 announcement.As of December, 42 journalists and bloggers were in prison in Iran, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. According to rights groups, more than 60 journalists were forced into exile in 2011 alone, and authorities have shut down at least 40 publications since 2009. Human Rights Watch has repeatedly called on the authorities to unconditionally release all journalists and bloggers detained or facing charges related to their exercise of fundamental rights, including freedom of expression.“The recent wave of arrests, especially against relatives of journalists working abroad, is a reprehensible escalation in the current campaign to stifle freedom of information in Iran,” said Whitson. “It is a sober reminder of the lengths Iranian authorities will go to control the airwaves, newspapers, and the internet – even if it means ruining the lives of Iranians at home and abroad.”

While protesting to the report by UN human rights reporter in Iran ( Ahmad Shaheed's report on Iran)and also protesting to UN recent session about Syria , Mohammad Sadegh Larijani the head of the Islamic Republic judiciary said: It was wrong for Islamic Republic to join the international Human Rights Charter.

As the head of judiciary of the Islamic Republic instead of dealing with open national case files like : The case files of political prisoners,the case file of University Campus ( Where the basij militia and security forces attacked the campus and killed and wounding students),the case file of Kahrizak prison( Where many young Iranian protesters after presidential coup were tortured,sexually abused and killed by Hossein Taeb, Saeed Mortazavi and...),the case files of the Iranian killed during the green movement protest after June presidential election in 2009 to the security and revolutionary Guards (Etelaate Sepah) forces . Larijani said:" If anyone insulted to our Imam's ,saints and Fatemeh Zahra(Daughter of Mohammad the prophet ),in some cases they will be executed and others will go to jail. Iran: New Arrests of Labor Activists Overturn Convictions, Drop Charges, and Free Peaceful Union Advocates
(New York, January 30, 2012) –
Iranian authorities should immediately release dozens of labor and independent trade union activists imprisoned for speaking out peacefully in defense of workers, Human Rights Watch said today. Convictions solely for the peaceful exercise of freedom of association and assembly should be quashed, and charges should be dropped against others facing prosecution for these reasons, Human Rights Watch said.The latest round of arrests took place in Iran’s Tehran, East Azerbaijan and Kurdistan provinces. The authorities summoned four activists in mid-January 2012 to begin serving long sentences imposed in 2011. On January 28, authorities arrested Alireza Akhavan, a teacher and labor rights activist, in his home in Tehran. It is not know where he is currently being held. On January 18, security forces arrested Mohammad Jarrahi in his home in Tabriz. Three days earlier, intelligence agents arrested Shahrokh Zamani, another Tabriz labor rights leader, and summoned two others also in Tabriz. Authorities also arrested Shays Amani, a prominent rights activist and member of an independent trade union in the city of Sanandaj on January 16. Earlier in the month authorities detained Mehdi Shandeez and transferred to Ward 350 of Evin prison in Tehran. All those arrested are labor activists or members of independent trade unions not authorized by the government.“Independent trade unions have played a critical role in protecting workers’ rights under Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s presidency,” said Joe Stork, deputy Middle East director at Human Rights Watch. “This latest round of arrests continues a long and ugly tradition of targeting independent trade unions to enforce full state control over these groups.”Authorities initially arrested Zamani on June 7, 2011, in connection with his activities as a member of an independent painters’ syndicate and a board member of the Committee to Pursue the Establishment of Labor Unions. Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Tabriz sentenced him to 11 years in prison for “participating in the organization of an unlawful group opposing the state … with the aim of disrupting national security by way of workers’ strikes and armed rebellion,” “assembly and collusion to further illegal activities,” and “propaganda against the regime.”In the same case, the court sentenced Jarrahi, who was arrested on June 20, to five years in prison for organizing an “unlawful” group called the Democratic Workers Movement, and Nima Pouryaghoub to five years on the same charge plus an additional year for “propaganda against the regime.” Sassan Vahebivash was sentenced to six months for related activities. Pouryaghoub and Vahebivash are engineering students at Tabriz’s Azad University.Authorities freed the four defendants after they posted bail, but, in November 2011, Branch 6 of the East Azerbaijan appeals’ court confirmed the original sentences handed down by the trial court. Authorities did not summon the defendants to serve their prison terms until this year.According to Iranian media reports, Amani, a prominent labor rights activist in Sanandaj (Kurdistan province) and a board member of the Iran Free Workers’ Union (IFWU), was arrested after he went to the prosecutor’s office in Sanandaj to inquire about the status of two other activists who had been detained earlier in January.Human Rights Watch is concerned about the well-being of several other prominent labor and trade union activists currently serving prison sentences, including Reza Shahabi, Ali Nejati, Ebrahim Madadi, and Behnam Ebrahimzadeh. Madadi is vice-president and Shahabi is treasurer of the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company (SWTSBC). Madadi is serving a three-and-a-half-year sentence on charges of endangering national security. Shahabi was arrested on June 12, 2010. A revolutionary court in Tehran tried him of endangering national security and “propaganda against the state” on May 25, 2011, but there has been no ruling in his case yet.According to a source familiar with his case, Shahabi spent 18 months in Tehran’s Evin prison without charge, including several months in solitary confinement, and suffers from serious neck and back pain. Shahabi is in Imam Khomeini hospital in Tehran after ending a 30-day hunger strike on December 22 to protest his detention and the authorities’ refusal to provide proper medical care.Two other activists, Ali Nejati and Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, who are serving one and five-year prison terms, respectively, on national security charges related to their independent trade union activities, also suffer from serious medical conditions. According to information received by Human Rights Watch, both Nejati and Ebrahimzadeh asked for long-term furloughs from prison so they could seek proper medical care, but judicial officials have denied their requests.Nejati is a former president and current board member of the Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane Workers’ Syndicate (HTSCW), and is in Ahvaz’s Dezful prison in southwest Iran. Ebrahimzadeh is in Evin prison.The IFWU and the bus workers’ and sugar cane workers’ unions, are among the largest and most active independent trade unions in Iran. Iran’s labor law does not recognize the right to create labor unions independent of government-sanctioned groups. Since 2005, authorities have repeatedly harassed, summoned, arrested, convicted, and sentenced workers who are affiliated with these independent trade unions and harassed their families.Most of these arrests have taken place during International Workers’ Day celebrations or strikes the unions have called, often for back wages that have not been paid for months. Mansour Osanlou, the current president of the bus workers’ group, was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of “acting against the national security” and “propaganda against the state” following several arrests between 2005 and 2007. Authorities allowed Osanlou to leave Evin prison in June after he had served about four years of his sentence, but could still summon him to serve the rest. Human Rights Watch called on the judiciary to quash Osanlou’s sentence.Independent unions have protested amendments to the current labor law introduced by President Ahmadinejad. The amendments, currently being reviewed by Iran’s parliament, make it easier for employers to fire workers and reduce workers’ benefits such as annual vacation days.Article 22 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), and Article 8 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) protect the right to form and join labor unions. Iran is a signatory to both of these treaties. Iran is also a member of International Labour Organization (ILO), but has so far refused to sign covenants 87 (Freedom of Association and the Protection of the Right to Organize Convention) and 98 (Right to Organize and Collective Bargaining Convention) of the ILO treaty.“Labor activists have been at the forefront of the struggle for freedom of association and assembly in Iran, and they have paid a heavy price,” Stork said. “Iranian law should recognize the right to organize independent unions and release activists who have committed no crime other than representing the interests of their constituents.”

Websites are full of news about the coming parliamentary election on March 2nd and the opposition are discussing to boycotte the election and will protest against the election shaw by the regime.

In this regard, the green movement particularly the coordinating council of the green path of hope in a statement asked Iranian people from all over Iran to come out on February 14th,2012 and walk on sidewalks in silence in protest against the regime suppression and the release of political prisoners particularly the release of three green movement leaders Mir Hossein Musavi, Zahra Rahnavard and Mr. Mehdi Karoubi.

The protest in Tehran will be carried from Enghelab Square to Azadi Square and Ferdousi Square and Navab intersection sidewalks from 4pm to 7pm on Feb.14,2012 . It statement also asked people from other major cities to protest in major Square's and Streets.

According to report in an interview Ms. Ebadi believes that: "The imprisonment of the Three leaders of the Green Movement ( Zahra Rahnavard, Mir Hossein Musavi and Mr. Mehdi Karoubi )is hundered percent against the international laws and the law of the Islamic Republic."Ms. Ebadi believes that,Iranian people must act now to free their leaders and political prisoners.She said: " I have told many times that ,unfortunately in Iran we do not have administrative of justice and Iranian people are disappointed from delivering of justice."

She added: " Without any charges,without any investigations, without any trial,they have kept them in a place which is not known exactly where they are?Sometimes it has been said that,they are in a house arrest ,but no one is allowed to that place ,and their location is a secret, infact, this is against international laws and against Islamic Republic laws. The question is ,this regime is expecting the people to follow the laws but themselves violate the laws."

About what the people must do , she said: "People can stage a sit in infront of the location where the three leaders believe to be imprisoned ,or they can write letter or petition to international bodies and the Iranian outside Iran can gather infront of the embassies to protest for their release."

Iran: Authorities Defiant on Rights Record Executions Soar, Activists and Dissidents Systematically Suppressed
(New York, January 22, 2012) – Iranian authorities in 2011 carried out more than 600 executions and imprisoned more journalists and bloggers than any other country, Human Rights Watch said today in issuing its World Report 2012 Iran chapter. Iran’s judiciary works hand-in-hand with security and intelligence forces to harass, imprison and convict opposition and rights activists, despite increasing international condemnation of the country’s rights record.In March the United Nations Human Rights Council appointed Ahmed Shaheed to be the first special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran since 2002. Since Shaheed’s appointment the Iranian government has refused him entry to the country, executed more than 400 prisoners – including people convicted of committing crimes when they were children, and prosecuted dozens of outspoken lawyers, journalists, and rights activists for their peaceful speech and associational activities. In February the authorities placed the 2009 presidential candidates Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi under house arrest, where they remain.“The Iranian government crushes all voices of opposition while scoffing at the international community’s growing concern over human rights,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East director at Human Rights Watch.In its 676-page World Report 2012, Human Rights Watch assesses progress on human rights during the past year in more than 90 countries, including popular uprisings in the Arab world that few would have imagined. Given the violent forces resisting the “Arab Spring,” the international community has an important role to play in assisting the birth of rights-respecting democracies in the region, Human Rights Watch said in the report.In Iran, the authorities carried out more than 600 executions, according to several rights groups, even though the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and four UN experts pressed Iranian officials for an immediate moratorium on the death penalty, “particularly for drug-related and juvenile cases.” Government sources announced only around 350 of these executions. The vast majority were for drug-related offenses, including trafficking and possession. The pace of executions accelerated following the entry into force in December 2010 of an amended anti-narcotics law, drafted by the Expediency Council and approved by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.Despite the hundreds of executions, Yuri Fedotov, executive director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), made no mention of the wave of executions taking place in Iran for drug-related offenses and praised the country’s anti-drug efforts during a visit to Tehran in July. The UNODC has provided up to $22 million since 2005 to support training projects for Iran’s anti-drug forces, and the European commission, European Union member states, and several other governments including Japan, Norway, Australia and Canada, provide money, technical assistance, and legislative support to Iran’s anti-drug efforts.Iran also led the world in the reported execution of people convicted of offenses they allegedly committed before age 18, despite the prohibition on such executions under international law. Iranian law allows capital punishment for people who have reached puberty, defined as age 9 for girls and 15 for boys. The judiciary allowed the execution of at least three children in 2011.Authorities have executed at least 30 people since January 2010 on the charge of moharebeh (“enmity against God”), for alleged ties to armed or terrorist groups. On January 9, 2012, a revolutionary court in Tehran sentenced Amir Mirzaei Hekmati, an Iranian-American, to death on charges of moharebeh, “corruption on earth,” and espionage. The judiciary sentenced Hekmati after authorities detained him for more than four months without providing him access to a lawyer, his family, or the Swiss consular officials who represent American interests in Iran.As of December 42 journalists and bloggers were in prison in Iran, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. More than 60 journalists were forced into exile in 2011 alone, and authorities have shut down at least 40 publications since 2009. On January 17, 2012, Iran’s Supreme Court confirmed the death sentence for blogger Saeed Malekpour, a Canadian resident who was convicted of “insulting and desecrating Islam” in October 2011. At least two other individuals have been sentenced to death by the judiciary on internet-related charges. The government blocks certain websites that carry political news and analysis, slows down internet speeds to hinder web access, and jams foreign satellite broadcasts.In January 2011 a revolutionary court sentenced Nasrin Sotoudeh, a prominent rights lawyer, to 11 years in prison and barred her from practicing law and leaving the country for 20 years on charges of “acting against the national security” and “propaganda against the regime.” The judiciary later reduced her sentence to six years and a 10-year ban on travel and practicing law. The judiciary prosecuted, convicted, or sentenced several other prominent lawyers to prison terms and bans on the practice of law. Earlier in the year Sadegh Larijani, the Head of the Judiciary, warned lawyers that they should refrain from giving interviews that damage the government’s reputation.On January 10, 2012, the Interior Ministry’s election commission disqualified several dozen candidates from running in the upcoming March 2 parliamentary elections because of their “lack of adherence to Islam and the Constitution.” The disqualified candidates include several incumbents who were critical of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s government. In November and December reformist and opposition activists, some of whom are currently serving prison terms, issued several statements calling the parliamentary elections a sham and concluding there was no reason to field candidates. In December the Iranian judiciary announced that anyone calling for a boycott of the upcoming parliamentary elections would be subject to prosecution.Mousavi and Karroubi were placed under house arrest in February 2011 after they called for mass protests. Several days earlier, beginning on February 8, security forces had arbitrarily arrested dozens of political opposition members in Tehran and several other cities.“The continued detention of Mousavi and Karroubi, not to mention the dozens of reformist candidates arrested after the disputed 2009 presidential election, is a reminder to all of us that Iran’s human rights crisis is linked to the demand of citizens to participate in free and fair elections,” Whitson said.

According to "Daneshjou News, Peyman Pakmehr is a journalist from the city of Tabriz and manager of the well known website " Tabriz News".Peyman was arrested three days ago by the agents of the Ministry of Information in the city of Tabriz with an order by prosecutor of the branch number five of Evin prison ( Moghadas).Peyman has began his journalistic activities since the decade of 2000 by working with publication like "Shams Tabriz " and then by establishing the "Tabriz News Agency ".Peyman has contacted with his family from ward number 209 in Evin prison. Fouad Khanjani the deprived Bahai student from continuing education, has attended in Evin prison branch for the execution of his four years imprisonment sentence. In the past he was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment by judge Moghiseh of branch number 28 of the court of revolution.That sentencing was confirmed again by branch number 54 of the supreme court of the country headed by judge Movahed.Fouad was arrested after the Ashura unrest in Iran and was detained , he was later released by bail.According to his lawyer ,he was summoned few time by Ministry of Information ( Vezarate Etelaat).His father Mr. Alaodin Khanjani also was arrested after the Ashura unrest in Iran.Fouad's grand father Mr. Jamalodin Khanjani a leading figure of the Bahai society in Iran is spending its 20 years imprisonment sentence in Rejaei Shahr prison in Karaj.

Report indicates that Parastoo Dokohaki a well known blogger and a social activist has been arrested. The security forces has arrested her on last Sunday afternoon.In the past Ms. Dokohaki has worked with many reformist newspaper as well including "Mahnameh Zanan, Yase Nou and Vaghaye Etefaghieh". Parastoos blog is known as " Zan-nevesht " or woman wrote .In a telephone conversation with her family Parastoo said , she has been charged with "propagating against the regime".Security agents attended at her house and arrested her and transfered her to "Bande Alef / Alef ward in Evin prison. The agents also took with them her computer and other personal belonging.

A report from Tehran, Marzieh Rasouli a journalist on cultural and art issues was arrested too on Tuesday.She was working with several independent newspaper including "Etemad" and "Shargh" newspapers. Marzieh was arrested by security forces on Tuesday night and the agents took her personal belonging with them.She has been charged with " Activities against National Security".

Also in another news Islamic despotic supreme court confirmed the death pernalty of Saeed Malekpour the Iranian -Canadian. Saeed Malekpour before his arrest was living in Canada. He is a computer specialist.Saeed was born on 1975 and he is a graduate of "Sanati Sharif Technical University " with major in metallurgical Engineering .While in Canada, Saeed designed a website which without his knowledge was used by the owner on pornographic issues.

Iranian in the green movement are preparing to boycott the coming Parliamentary election in March !

March 2nd ,2012 will mark the ninth Parliamentary( Majles ) election in Iran. Once again this event will bring fear among regime officials for yet another uprising of Iranian people against Islamic Republic regime in Iran and discussion among the opposition how to look into this opportunity to rethink and reorganiz the mostly young Iranian to boycott or show a kind of referendum for not participating nationwide in this coming election.
While regime is spending more money into organizing its own show of force and propaganda , the opposition in the green movement need to bring more political figure and parties or personalities around the table to discuss for a successful boycott of this election.

According to report, "The Coordinating Council of the Green Path of Hope " is asking all activists and supporters of green movement particularly the youth and students to find a way to protest and curb the Islamic Republic dictatorship from February 21 - March 2nd the day of the parliamentary election.

Since regime electoral machines( The guardian council) rejected almost all the former reformists to enter into the election race, this coming parliamentary election has a special meaning for Iranian people. Regime is trying to prepare for a made up election and let more ultra conservative and radical Islamist to enter into the Majles.

In the past Mr. Mehdi Karoubi one of Green Movement leader who is now in a security controled house arrest said:
"Regime is trying to have an ordered or made up election."

Farokh Negahdar former leader of the Fedaian Khalgh majority who live in exile in London in an interview with "Jaras" website said : There is a possibilities that people will decide by a massive strike to boycott the election and through this they will push the regime back . He believes people will challenge what Khamenei the leader of the Islamic Republic regime in Iran have said: Khamenei in the past said: "We expect to have a more enthusiastic election than before.". Mr. Negahdar believes on March 2,2012 Iranian people will say a Big NO to regime's made up election and it will become a national solidarity among all Iranian and a day of the great test.

Alireza Sabouri was a 20 years old young Iranian who joined the protest of "Where is my Vote ? " after the presidential election coup in Iran in June 2009, had died in his apartment while seated behind his computer in the city of Boston -USA. According to report his body will be transfered to the city of Berlin -Germany where his relatives live. The report said: The funeral ceremony will take place on Jan. 20 in Berlin-Germany.

During the protest after the election coup, Alireza Sabouri was shot and wounded.He was in coma for a month. Despite of two surgery on him ,he died as a result of that injuries. After first treatment and learning how to walk and speak again, he left Iran to Turkey and then to USA as a refugee. Less than two months ago while in his apartment and his head on his labtop died as a result of those injuries.

His name ,his memories and his struggle for a Free Iran will always remain in the hearts of million Iranian inside and outside Iran.

A week in Cuba and what a coincidents!?

A week of stay in Cuba coincided with Ahmadinejad's travel to Cuba and latin America.
I was in Havana market this past week when i encounter six Islamic Republic security forces (two by two ), looking for something in that market,Perhaps Ahmadinejad's wife ( Which i didn't see) or his delegates were in that market. However ,If i had encountered Ahmadinejad in that market place ,i would have welcomed him with a plate full of cream cake at his face in the sake of all Iranian political prisoners,cheating presidential election almost three years ago by a coup and killing many Iranian young protesters.

Iranian Journalist Masoud Bastani's life is in great danger !

Based on the recent reports Masoud Bastani the Iranian journalist who is spending six years prison sentence in Rejaei Shahr prison, is suffering from severe headachs and sometime he loses feeling of his body and several time he was transfered to the prison clinic. According to the doctors who have examined him , he must be imediately transfered to the hospital for a series of test and C.T. scan and treatment.This situation made Iranian journalists and his family members worried. Masoud Bastani have been in prison since july of 2009 after the presidential election coup. He was charged with " propagating against the regime" and "conspiracy to commit anti regime activities " . Based on this charges ,Masoud was sentenced to six years imprisonment and currently together with many Iranian journalists ( Nearly 40 )spending time in prison.

Arya Aramnejad is a 26 year-old Iranian artist, singer and composer. He was arrested for singing his famous song "Ali Barkhiz" (O Ali raise), composed after the Ashura uprising. He reportedly spent two months of his detention in solitary confinement. The Iranian government has charged him with acting against national security due to releasing the song "Ali Barkhiz". During his most recent court hearing, he briefly described some of the physical and psychological tortures he was subjected to in prison. These abuses included being severely beaten upon asking for medical attention for his heart condition, being photographed naked, being forced to walk on floors covered with the blood of a prisoner with AIDS who had committed suicide. Mr. Aramnejad also received death threats from the Iranian revolutionary guards. Mr. Aramnejad’s wife, who has had no political affiliation with any organization, has been threatened with arrest in the event that Mr. Aramnejad refuses to comply with the government’s requests. Mr. Aramnejad has been released on bail and is facing heavy charges by the Iranian officials.

[BWNS, 19 Dec. 2011] UNITED NATIONS — Reflecting the international community’s increasing intolerance for human rights violations, the UN General Assembly today condemned Iran for oppressing its citizens.
By a vote of 89 to 30 with 64 abstentions, the Assembly approved a resolution that expressed “deep concern at serious ongoing and recurring human rights violations” in the country.
The vote came after Iran attempted a “no-action motion,” aimed at blocking the resolution by calling for adjournment of the debate. The motion failed by a vote of 100 against, 35 in favor, with 42 abstentions.
Such resolutions on human rights in Iran have come before the Assembly virtually every year since 1992, and this year’s measure – already approved by the General Assembly’s Third Committee last month – passed by the widest margin yet seen.

The International Center for Human Rights (ICHR) announced today that Mr. Heshmatollah Tabarzadi, Iranian political leader and prisoner, is receiving a prestigious human rights award from ICHR for his human rights activities. Five other prisoners also won the awards in the realms of student, labour, culture, human rights and legal advocacy. The International Center for Human Rights presented the human rights awards to prominent activists on behalf of the award winners at its first annual gala on Sunday December 11, 2011.

Heshmatollah Tabarzadi was the recipient of the first annual Human Rights Award of the International Center for Human Rights. The CEO of Tirgan International festival, Mehrdad Ariannejad, accepted Heshmatollah Tabarzadi’s award on his behalf at the first annual gala on Sunday December 11. Mr. Tabarzadi has endured more than 16 years of physical and psychological abuse in the Islamic Republic’s prisons and before its courts.

“Winners of the 2011 awards are among activists who have made significant efforts to resist dictatorship and injustice,” said Hassan Zarezadeh Ardeshir, ICHR’s director. “The selection process was not easy when there are many prominent Iranian activists currently behind bars. However, the ICHR eight member selection team narrowed down the list of nominees to five names who received glass awards and one name who won the crystal award along with cash prize.”

Nasrin Sotoudeh, imprisoned prominent human rights lawyer, won ICHR’s award in the realm of human rights advocate. Miss Fereshteh Molavi, Ira nian human rights activist and writer, received the award on Ms. Sotoudeh’s behalf.

Majid Tavakoli, imprisoned prominent student leader, won ICHR’s award in the realm of student activitism. Mr. Salman Sima, a former student activist received Majid’s award on his behalf.

Reza Shahabi, imprisoned labor activist, won ICHR’s award in the realm of labour rights. Mr. Mehdi Kuhestani, a labour activist, received the award on Mr. Shahabi’s behalf.

Kouhyar Goudarzi, imprisoned human rights defender, won ICHR’s award in the realm of human rights defender. Mr. Hassan Zerehi , a journalist and human rights defender, received Kuhyar’s award on his behalf.

Ramn Parchami , an actor, won the ICHR award in the field of art. Mr. Soheil Parsa a prominent artistic director and writer received this award on Ramin Parchami’s behalf.

The International Center for Human Rights in Iran’s first annual human rights day gala was held in Toronto on Sunday December 11, 2011 at the Royal Banquet Hall. At the event, leading human rights figures such as Mr. Mohammad Mostafaie, human rights lawyer, Mr. Ahmad Batebi, human rights defender, Mr. Morteza Abdolalian fron Canadian Journalist for Free Expression, Aubrey Harris, from Amnesty International in Canada, Mr. Kaveh Shahrouz, Lawyer and former state department’s human rights advisor, spoke on the deplorable human rights situation in Iran. Also messages from MPP Dr. Reza Moridi and Canadian Parliament member, Mr. Paul Dewar, were read at the event.

Background information:

Nasrin Sotoudeh is a prominent Iranian lawyer and human rights activist. She is currently held in the notorious Evin prison, and sentenced to six years in prison and banned from practicing law for ten years. Her crime is defending her clients who are mainly human rights activists arrested and abused following the June 2009 Presidential election. She has also defended numerous child execution cases.

Nasrin Sotoudeh is a member of the Defenders of Human Rights, the One Million Signatures Campaign to Change Discriminatory Laws Against Women, and the Society for Protecting the Rights of the Child.

Nasrin Sotoudeh was arrested in September 2010, and has endured the torture of long durations in solitary confinement. Since her arrest, Nasrin has launched multiple hunger strikes to protest the illegal behaviour of the Iranian authorities.

Nasrin Sotoudeh is the recipient of the 2011 PEN/Barbara Goldsmith Freedom to Write Award. The resilient lawyer is one of ICHR’s award winners for her strong defence against human rights violations in Iran

Majid Tavakoli is a prominent student leader activist who was majoring in shipbuilding at Tehran’s Amirkabir University of Technology. He is currently held in the horrific Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj. Majid Tavakoli was violently arrested on December 7, 2009, following a post-election speech he had delivered on National Student Day that criticized high-ranking regime officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. He was transferred to the notorious Evin prison, and endured long stays in solitary confinement under severe psychological and physical torture. The student leader resisted the illegal behaviour of the Iranian authorities by launching multiple prison hunger strikes which have led to his deteriorating health, including reports of abdominal bleeding in 2010.

The student leader was first arrested in 2007 for protesting Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's presence at the university. Consequently, he was held behind bars for 15 months and tortured. He was arrested for the second time in March 2009 during a memorial ceremony for Mehdi Bazargan. Majid endured 115 days in solitary confinement at Evin prison, but was eventually released after posting a pricey bail. Majid is a brave student leader who has served as an inspiration for people around the world, and has kept the hope of victory alive in the hearts of Iranians. He is honoured as ICHR’s award winner for his persistent efforts in speaking out in defense of the Iranian civil society.

Reza Shahabi is a labour activist and a board member of the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company. In June 2010, four security agents arrested Reza Shahabi at his workplace, and transferred him to Evin prison. Since then, 18 months ago, Reza Shahabi has been held in a state of prison limbo, meaning he has not yet been issued a prison sentence. Reza Shahabi has launched multiple hunger strikes behind bars. His most recent hunger strike was launched 16 days ago in protest to his uncertain situation and the unbearable prison conditions. According to his brother, Reza Shahabi plans to continue his hunger strike until his status is clarified and his prison conditions are made clear. According to human rights reporters, Reza Shahabi’s health is rapidly deteriorating and his life is at risk. The imprisoned labour activist is suffering from osteoarthritis, low blood pressure, and heart and liver problems. During his incarceration, the degenerative arthritis has resulted in Reza Shahabi to lose control over the left side of his body. Reza Shahabi is an individual who has fought tirelessly for justice. He is honoured as ICHR’s award winner for his tireless efforts in supporting worker’s rights in Iran.

Kouhyar Goudarzi: Kouhyar Goudarzi is an award-winning human rights and student activist, a blogger, a freelance journalist, a banned Sharif University aerospace engineering student, and a member of the Committee of Human Rights Reporters. In November 2009, Kouhyar was expelled from his studies for his human rights activities.
On December 20, 2009, Kouhyar and other activists were arrested in Azadi Square while heading to Qom for Ayatollah Montazeri’s funeral. After enduring more than five months of temporary detention and severe physical and psychological torture in Evin, the human rights activist was sentenced to one year in prison. And on December 14, 2010, he was released from prison. However, on July 31, 2011 Kouhyar Goudarzi was arrested again. The next day, his mother was arrested and transferred to Kerman prison. Kouhyar Goudarzi was subjected to an enforced disappearance, and the Iranian authorities have remained silent on his location and well being to this day. According to unofficial sources and open evidence, Kouhar is currently detained in Evin prison. Kouhyar Goudarzi is a brave and selfless human rights defender who is honoured as ICHR’s award winners for the many sacrifices he has chosen to make for a more hopeful future in Iran.

Ramin Parchami: Ramin Parchami is a prominent Iranian actor who was arrested during the February 14, 2011 pro-democracy protests in Iran. He was spotted in the crowd in a demonstration and was told numerous times by plainclothes agents to leave. However, when Ramin Parchami ignored the warnings, he was arrested. According to a detainee who witnessed the actor's transfer to Evin prison, he had walked down the prison hallway chanting loudly, “Zendani Siasi Azad Bayad Gardad” “Political Prisoners Must Be Freed!” This action lifted the spirits of the other prisoners. Ramn Parchami was sentenced to one year in prison by the Tehran Revolutionary Court, and is currently held in Evin prison, where he has also endured the torture of solitary confinement. The imprisoned actor has played roles in numerous films and television series, and, until last year, was working as an editor for the weekly arts and culture magazine titled, Naghsh Afarinan. Ramin Parchami is a brave human rights defender.

Reza Shahabi is a labor leader who is in his 20th day of hunger strike. His life is in danger and paralysis is endangering his life and concern on his health condition is raising the alarm.

Committee in defense of Reza Shahabi has announced that, On Sunday Dec.11 ,2011 the prison officials brought Reza to ward number 350 in Evin prison instead of hospital. Reza via telephone conversation told his family members that ,the prison officials told him :"Your blood pressure is low and you must stay in ward 350 instead of hospital."

Based on information from the emmergency unit , Reza should have been transfered to hospital since Saturday December 10 and not the prison ward.Danger of paralysis is threatening the life of Reza Shahabi.

Suppression or tyranny builds anger,revenge or hateret, which we hope the society won't go to that direction ,if it goes ,the regime should be blamed and the first people who will suffer most are the Supreme leader of the Islamic Republic, his family members and the entire system of the Islamic Republic" this is what most moderate Islamist believe."

NEW YORK The number of journalists imprisoned worldwide shot up more than 20 percent to its highest level since the mid-1990s, an increase driven largely by widespread jailings across the Middle East and North Africa, the Committee to Protect Journalists has found. In its annual census of imprisoned journalists, CPJ identified 179 writers, editors, and photojournalists behind bars on December 1, an increase of 34 over its 2010 tally.
Iran was the world’s worst jailer, with 42 journalists behind bars, as authorities kept up a campaign of anti-press intimidation that began after the country’s disputed presidential election more than two years ago. Eritrea, China, Burma, Vietnam, Syria, and Turkey also ranked among the world’s worst. (Read detailed accounts of each imprisoned journalist.)
CPJ’s census found stark differences among regions. For the first time since CPJ began compiling annual prison surveys in 1990, not a single journalist in the Americas was in jail for work-related reasons on December 1. Imprisonments also continued a gradual decline in Europe and Central Asia, where only eight journalists were jailed, the lowest regional tally in six years. But those improvements were swamped by large-scale jailings across the Middle East and North Africa, where governments were holding 77 journalists behind bars, a figure that accounted for nearly 45 percent of the worldwide total. Asian and African nations also accounted for dozens of imprisonments.
While Iran’s 2009 post-election crackdown marked the beginning of widespread press imprisonments there, authorities have maintained a revolving cell door since that time, freeing some detainees on furloughs even as they make new arrests. Journalists freed on furloughs often post six-figure bonds and endure severe political pressure to keep silent or turn on their colleagues. “The volume of arrests, interrogations, and people out on bail is enormous,” said Omid Memarian, an exiled Iranian journalist. “The effect is that many journalists know they should not touch critical subjects. It really affects the way they cover the news because they are under constant fear and intimidation.” Among the 2011 detainees is Iranian editor Mohammad Davari, a CPJ International Press Freedom Award winner whose website exposed the abuse and rape of inmates at the now-closed Kahrizak Detention Center. Q&A: Tackling Human Rights in Iran Is 'Like a Minefield'

The Islamic Republic of Iran has one of the most desperate human rights situations in the world.
On Tuesday, the United Nations Human Rights Committee, which monitors states' compliance with their obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, met to consider the current circumstances in Iran.
But Amnesty International warned that Iranian authorities would 'make a farce' out of the hearing unless they acknowledged their current and past abuses, such as imposing the death penalty on juvenile offenders; discriminating against and arresting religious and ethnic minorities and homosexuals; and carrying out unfair trials and torture.
IPS correspondent Christian Papesch talked to Elise Auerbach, Iran country specialist for Amnesty International USA, on human rights in Iran, the international community's response, political complications and the potential impact of the 'Arab Spring' in Iran.
Q: The report Iran submitted this week to the U.N. Human Rights Committee was more than a decade late and yet still failed to reflect serious and continuing abuses. Was it a farce? A: I wouldn't call it a farce. They have not addressed concerns of the international community. The United Nations Secretary-General now issues reports twice a year on Iran. The Special Rapporteur Ahmed Shaheed just issued a report but he was not allowed into the country. They brought up a lot of the concerns that we have about Iran's human rights record.
But Iran does not address these concerns. They claim that accusations against its human rights records (are) motivated by politics, that the United States and other Western countries are orchestrating this smear campaign against Iran for political reasons.
I would say that the report is inadequate and extremely evasive. It's just an attempt to avoid having to address in any kind of serious way the concerns of the international community.
Q: In the past month we have seen a number of revolutions and uprisings in North Africa and the Middle East. Do you think the 'Arab Spring' could reach Iran? Will there be an uprising against the human rights violations of the government? A: There were some very serious protests in Iran in the summer of 2009. Millions of people poured into the streets to protest what they saw as falsified election results. Many people would say that these protests were the forerunners of the protests in Arab countries this spring.
The Iranian government brutally suppressed the protests in the summer of 2009. There were some protests in December 2009 and there have been some sporadic mass protests since then, but not on a level that has been seen in Arabic countries this year.
But certainly the Iranians have taken enormous risks to protest what they see as unfair government. The Iranian government is doing the very best it can to try and prevent and avoid any further massive protest.
Q: Two days ago, filmmaker Jafar Panahi's appeal against his sentence of six years in prison and a 20-year ban on filmmaking and travel was rejected. Is there any way for him and other critics of the regime to continue working in Iran? What steps has Amnesty International taken to support activists like Panahi? A: Jafar Panahi has expressed his desire to remain in Iran money times. He says he loves his country and doesn't want to leave Iran — and yet he has been prosecuted.
We collected about 21,000 signatures on a petition on behalf of Jafar Panahi. Some very well known Hollywood celebrities like Sean Penn, Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese signed it. We did a petition delivery to the Iran mission to the United Nations in New York. We went into the building of the Iran mission and after some negotiation finally an official agreed to take the petition.
There is broad crackdown against artistic impression in Iran and it is very difficult for people to operate in Iran. But no matter how difficult it is for them to exercise their right of freedom of expression, they still do it. Iranian people are extraordinarily courageous — they always think of ways to outwit the Iranian government.
Q: What are the main difficulties Amnesty International faces in its attempts to improve the human rights situation in Iran? How does the country differ from other countries on which you work? A: Iran is certainly one of the most challenging countries to work on. For one thing, it's challenging because of its scale of human rights violations. There are just so many problems in Iran and the system is not at all transparent. Amnesty International is not allowed access into Iran.
Fortunately there is a very large number of human rights activists in Iran that report on human rights violations. We get very good information from them, but the fact that we are not allowed in the country to do our mission is a problem.
We want to make clear that our agenda is not the agenda of the U.S. government. When we are criticizing Iran's human rights record we are speaking as human rights activists and that's our only concern.
We have to be very careful with our messaging because of the fact that the debate over Iran can be very politicised with other issues, such as Iran's nuclear programme, its supposed hostility towards the state of Israel, supposed influence on other Middle Eastern countries.
There are just a lot of other very fraught issues involved with Iran so it's kind of like a minefield and we have to be very careful to just adhere to our human rights message.

Iran: Heavy Security Deployment In Tehran Amidst Protest Fears

Security is said to be “tight” in the Iranian capital, amidst fears of a fresh wave of opposition protests on Ashura and national Students Day.
According to Green Voice of Freedom sources, on Tuesday anti-riot police in full armour gear and security forces on motorcycles were patrolling a number of neighbourhoods in central Tehran. In addition, helicopters circled in the central districts, keeping a close eye on developments on the ground.
A recently uploaded YouTube video shows a heavy security presence in Tehran on the holy day of Ashura. The clip appears to shows security forces positioned in important areas of city’s centre such as Haft-e-Tir Square, Enghelab Sq., Vali-Asr Sq., the intersection of Hafez and Enghelab Avenues as well as the intersection of Enghelab and Vali-Asr Avenues.
“The atmosphere [was] completely dominated by security [forces]. The non-stop hovering of helicopters, as well as patrols by the special guard and the police are reminiscent of the Ashura [protests in December 2009],” said another eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity.
“The intersection of Shademan and Sattarkhan, [was] filled with anti-riot forces and there [were] many police vehicles with cages. It was the same situation in Towhid Square,” he continued.
In December 2009, a wave of anti-regime demonstrations known as the “Ashura” protests swept Iranian cities. Clashes between Green Movement supporters and security forces during the protests left at least eleven protesters dead in Tehran, three of whom were run over reputedly by police cars. Among the slain protesters was Seyed Ali Mousavi, nephew of opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi, who was killed by an assassin’s bullet to the heart.
At least four other protesters were killed by security forces in the north-western city of Tabriz.
At the time, Tehran’s Deputy Police Chief Ahmad Reza Radan acknowledged the arrest of 300 individuals on state television, but shamelessly claimed that those killed included one person who fell off a bridge and two others who were killed in a car accident. Radan went on to add that only one protester had been killed by bullet. However, “considering the fact that the police did not use firearms, this incident is extremely suspicious, and is being investigated,” he said.
No one has been brought to justice for any of the crimes committed on that day.

Canadian university graduates among Baha'i educators on trial in Iran

A Baha'i educator with a degree from a Canadian university received a four-year prison sentence in Iran while two other Baha'i educators with Canadian university degrees are being held in prison without charge, according to reports received by the Baha'i International Community.
Nooshin Khadem-who holds a Master's in Business from Carleton University in Ottawa- has been sentenced to four years in prison.
Husband and wife Kamran Rahimian and Faran Hesami, both psychology instructors and graduates of the Masters in Educational Counseling Program of the University of Ottawa– have been held without charge since 13 September 2011.
The three Canadian university alumni are among nine educators that have been detained in connection with their involvement in an informal community initiative – known as the Baha'i Institute for Higher Education (BIHE) – in which Baha'i professors, debarred by the Iranian government from practicing their professions, offer their services to teach young community members who are banned from university.
Four year jail terms were also given to BIHE lecturers Ramin Zibaie, Mahmoud Badavam and Farhad Sedghi and consultant Riaz Sobhani.
Two other individuals associated with the BIHE, Vahid Mahmoudi and Kamran Mortezaie, were each sentenced to five years imprisonment.
Verdicts against the seven were reportedly handed down by a judge at Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran.

"It is not even clear at this stage what the exact charges were against these innocent souls, whose only desire was to serve young people who have been unjustly barred from higher education on purely religious grounds," said Bani Dugal, Principal Representative of the Baha'i International Community to the United Nations."What kind of society makes educating the young a punishable crime?" she said.Global protest
The most recent attacks carried out against BIHE continue to provoke condemnation from governments, organizations, academics and young people throughout the world.More than 70 academics in Australia, including University of Ballarat vice-chancellor, David Battersby, have signed an open letter protesting Iran's educational discrimination against Baha'is and calling for the immediate release of the imprisoned educators.
On 10 October, 43 prominent philosophers and theologians in 16 countries signed a letter of protest. “To acquire knowledge and learning is the sacred and legal right of all; indeed, the state is obliged to provide it. In Iran, the government has done the opposite...” wrote the academics.Two Nobel Peace Prize laureates – Desmond Tutu, the Anglican Archbishop Emeritus of Cape Town, and Jose Ramos-Horta, President of East Timor – in another open letter, sharply criticized the Iranian government, comparing its actions to "the Dark Ages of Europe" or the "Spanish Inquisition."
On 5 October, resuming a Canadian Senate debate about the Baha’is in Iran, Senator Hugh Segal described the suffering heaped on Baha’is as “systematic and brutal, especially when the Baha’i are known as a peaceful faith that embraces the sanctity of all religions.”
“The official Iranian oppression of Baha’i … is a clarion call to humanity and to free peoples and democracies everywhere to look directly at the harsh colors of the Iranian reality and not look away until the challenge is faced head on,” said Senator Segal.
Around 112 Baha’is are currently behind bars in Iran because of their religion. This includes the seven Baha’i leaders, serving 20-year jail terms on trumped-up charges. The cases of some 300 other Baha’is are still active with the Iranian authorities.

Iraq/Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization: Cooperate With UN Provide Safe Location to Assess Camp Ashraf Refugee Claims(New York, November 30, 2011) – Both the leadership of the exiled Iranian opposition group Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization and the Iraqi government should fully cooperate with the UN refugee agency, Human Rights Watch said today.Both sides should allow the more than 3,200 Iranians at Camp Ashraf, in Iraq, to move to a protected location under UN supervision before the Iraqi government’s December 31, 2011 deadline for closing the camp, Human Rights Watch said. And both should allow the UN refugee agency sufficient time to conduct private and confidential interviews with each person to assess their refugee claims.“With each tick of the clock, the danger to camp residents grows,” said Bill Frelick, refugee program director at Human Rights Watch. “The best way forward for the safety of the Camp Ashraf residents is to give them the chance to press their individual claims for refugee status with the UN in a safe location.”Camp Ashraf, recently renamed Camp New Iraq, has already been the site of two bloody confrontations between Iraqi security forces and camp residents. Most recently, on April 8, 2011, 36 camp residents were killed. On July 29, 2009, 9 were killed. After these incidents Human Rights Watch called on the Iraqi authorities to protect camp residents and open transparent investigations into the killings.Both the Iraqi security forces and the leadership of Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK/PMOI) should avoid bloodshed and allow residents to leave Camp Ashraf and meet privately with the UN refugee agency without fear of harm from either camp leaders or the Iraqi authorities, Human Rights Watch said.The UN has offered to monitor the entire process when residents leave Camp Ashraf and to be present with them in a safe transit location. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has also agreed to assess refugee claims among camp residents who seek asylum and to seek durable solutions for refugees among them. Human Rights Watch has documented abuses by the leadership of the MEK in Camp Ashraf against camp residents who questioned their authority.Human Rights Watch called on the Iraqi government to allow former Camp Ashraf residents who qualify as refugees to stay in Iraq subject to Iraqi law and respect for their basic human rights, until a durable solution can be found on their behalf.The Iranian government should agree to the voluntary repatriation of those former residents from Camp Ashraf who wish to return in safety and dignity, Human Rights Watch said. The camp residents should not, for example, be subjected to televised confessions, as other former MEK members have said has happened, and the government should ensure their freedom of movement, including the right to leave Iran. Iran’s government should also allow independent international organizations full access to monitor their return.Because some former Camp Ashraf residents will not be able safely to stay in Iraq or return to Iran, Human Rights Watch also called on other governments to respond favorably and promptly to UNHCR referrals of former Ashraf residents for resettlement or for governments to allow Ashraf residents to whom they had previously issued passports to return to those countries.The Iraqi government should ensure that any MEK members accused of crimes in Iraq or for whom extradition requests have been issued receive all procedural rights in open and fair proceedings and ensure that none are subjected to torture or cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment in either Iraq or Iran.The MEK was founded in 1965 as an armed group to challenge the Shah of Iran’s government. In 1981, two years after the Iranian revolution, the group went underground after trying to foment an armed uprising against Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. After a period of exile in France, most of the group's leaders relocated to Iraq in 1986, although its top leadership remains in France.In 1997, the United States State Department designated the group a foreign terrorist organization and it remains on the State Department’s list of foreign terrorist organizations. The European Union also listed the group as a foreign terrorist organization, but has removed it from the list. Many Iraqis also have alleged that the group’s members actively participated in campaigns against opponents of Saddam Hussein's government. The fall of Hussein's government in April 2003 put an end to Iraqi financial and logistical support to the group.

Iran: Protect Health, Safety of Jailed Cleric Hossein Kazemeini Boroujerdi, Outspoken Religious Critic, in Grave Danger
(New York, November 28, 2011) – The Iranian authorities should ensure a prompt and thorough investigation into threats and attempted attacks against Ayatollah Hossein Kazemeini Boroujerdi’s life, and allow him to seek proper medical care outside prison, Human Rights Watch said today. Boroujerdi, a prominent 53-year-old Shia cleric who has criticized the religious system of government, suffers from several serious health conditions.
A source close to Boroujerdi and his family told Human Rights Watch that on November 22, 2011, a cellmate tried to kill Boroujerdi during an altercation. Boroujerdi’s family and followers have long complained of the dangerous and substandard conditions under which the cleric is held, including detention with violent cellmates convicted of drug trafficking and violent crimes.
“We have serious concerns about Boroujerdi’s well-being and safety,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East director at Human Rights Watch. “In addition to denying him necessary medical care, authorities are playing with Boroujerdi’s life by apparently not protecting him from threats and attacks against his life.”
Boroujerdi is in ward 350 of Evin prison, in the sixth year of an 11-year sentence on charges never made public. His followers and family members have reported at least two previous incidents in which cellmates have attacked or seriously threatened the cleric’s life.
Security forces arrested Boroujerdi and dozens of his supporters on October 8, 2006 during a raid on his home in Tehran. Sources close to Boroujerdi told Human Rights Watch that authorities harassed and eventually detained Boroujerdi because of his views that Islam should be separated from politics. Since his arrest, Boroujerdi has been an outspoken critic of the Islamic Republic and the concept of the velayat-e faqih, or leadership of the jurist, which endorses the idea espoused by the government of a Shia supreme leader.
Authorities have consistently denied Boroujerdi access to a lawyer of his choosing, including during his trial in 2007 before the Special Clerical Court, which was conducted behind closed doors. The Judiciary found Boroujerdi guilty on several security charges, including “moharebeh” – or enmity against God – a charge that carries the death penalty under Iranian law, sources told Human Rights Watch. Later, an appeals court reduced the death sentence to 11 years in jail.
The Special Court for Clergy was established by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeni, the founder of the Islamic Republic, to try both Shia and non-Shia dissident clerics. It operates independently from the Iranian Judiciary and is not bound by any constitutional provisions. Since its founding, the Special Court of the Clergy has tried or sentenced dozens of dissident and reformist clerics to prison on charges including insulting Islamic values, propaganda against the regime, and apostasy, for which the punishment is death.
Iranian authorities have so far refused to provide any public information regarding Boroujerdi’s prosecution and sentence. Authorities have consistently denied Boroujerdi regular visitation rights, and repeatedly targeted his family members and followers with harassment, confiscation of property, arrest, and detention, several sources close to him have told Human Rights Watch.
Boroujerdi reportedly suffers from failing eyesight, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure. A source close to him told Human Rights Watch that the failure to treat Boroujerdi’s heart disease has resulted in pulmonary edema, the accumulation of fluid in the lungs. She said that doctors at Evin Prison have told Boroujerdi that he needs to be treated in a hospital, but that authorities have repeatedly refused to allow him proper medical care outside the prison.
In a public letter released on October 1, a group of human rights activists expressed concern about Boroujerdi’s deteriorating health, saying he “has been subjected to the most inhumane forms of physical and psychological torture to force him into signing a statement renouncing his beliefs.” Human Rights Watch has previously criticized Boroujerdi’s detention, calling on Iranian authorities to allow him access to necessary medical care.
International and Iranian law require prison authorities to provide detainees with adequate medical care. The UN Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners require that authorities transfer prisoners needing treatment by medical specialists to specialized institutions, including civilian hospitals. Additionally, Iran’s State Prison Organization regulations state that, if necessary, detainees must be transferred to a hospital outside the prison facilities to secure proper medical treatment.
“During the past several years, other political prisoners have died in Iran’s prisons as a result of abuse, torture, or medical neglect,” Whitson said. “Iranian authorities will have blood on their hands if Boroujerdi is attacked or his health deteriorates for lack of medical access.”

They call themselves moslem too...do moslem bring these much harm?All of my childeren were highly educated. As a mother ,i laboured hard and brought up edecated childeren,and they have killed my educated childeren.Why UN don't speak about them and say about their names?I expected UN say the names of these childeren in the television.For example ,they say that UN wants to review and help ease to the pain and sufferings of the people, while they have killed six of my childeren and UN kept silence ....not speaking on.... Azerbaijani writer critical of Islam, died in the attempt!
Rafiq Taqi, General physician and a controversial writer, who was assassinated on November 19, died. His doctor at the hospital in Baku said that his respiratory passage was blocked .
The Ajarbayejani journalist was assassinated due to a fatwa by Ayatollah Fazel Lankarani.
Rafiq Taqi who aws the member of "The Assembly of Free writers" wrote an article on 2006 titled " The Europe and Us" which was critical to Islam and based on that, Ayatollah Fazel Lankarani issued a fatwa and called him as "Mahduroldam" meaning its ok if he is killed by Islamists.
Because of protest by some religious personalities ,the Government of Azarbayejan arrested Rafiq Taqi and sentenced him to three years imprisonment. Rafiq Taqi spent two of three years in jail when the president of Azarbayjan pardoned him and he was released and resumed his medical practices and writing .
Rafiq Taqi was on his way home on Nov.19 at 10 pm when an unknown assailant attacked him by knife which resulted nine wounds on his body and as a result of these wounds he died later in the hospital.
After the operation in the hospital ,he has told reporter of "Free Europe " that , he believe the Azarbayejani Islamicts and Islamic Republin in Iran were behind the assassination .However,Islamic Republic regime issued a statement rejected the allegation.

The Iranian security forces’ November 21, 2011 raid on the offices of the official Iran newspaper and their attempt to arrest President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s media adviser show the Iranian government’s extreme reaction to dissent, Human Rights Watch said today. The authorities detained about 40 staff members of the Iran daily while attempting to arrest Ali-Akbar Javanfekr, the head of the official Islamic Republic News Agency, who was conducting a news conference at the newspaper’s offices in Tehran. By evening, 30 of the 40 arrested staff members had been released, the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.The raid came after Iran’s Judiciary ordered the two-month closure of the reformist newspaper Etemad on November 19. Etemad had earlier published an interview in which Javanfekr criticized the Judiciary and opponents of Ahmadinejad. On November 22 Elias Hazrati, the managing editor of Etemad confirmed that his paper had been shut down because it had published an article about opposition leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, who have been under house arrest since February, and because of the interview it had conducted with Javanfekr.“The simultaneous crackdown on President Ahmadinejad’s media adviser, journalists working for a state-owned newspaper, and a reformist daily shows the absurd level of intolerance authorities have toward freedom of the press in Iran,” said Joe Stork, deputy Middle East director at Human Rights Watch. “The authorities should release anyone still detained from the Iran daily raid and lift the ban on Etemad.”The raid at Iran’s offices followed a ruling by a Tehran criminal court on November 20 sentencing Javenfekr to one year in prison and banning him from working for the news media for three years for “publishing materials contrary to Islamic norms.” The charge related to an article associated with Javanfekr that was published in a special issue of Iran in August. Reporters Without Borders condemns physical attacks on journalists with the state news agency IRNA and state-owned daily Iran, the arrests of several of these journalists and the closure of the privately-owned daily Etemad, all within the past three days.
IRNA headquarters was raided yesterday by police and officials from the Tehran prosecutor’s office with the aim of arresting its director, Ali Akbar Javanfekr, just as he was giving a news conference to protest against the one-year jail sentence and three-year ban on working as a journalist that a Tehran court had imposed on him the day before.
Javanfekr is also a media advisor to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is currently embroiled in power struggle with the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamanei,
The raid was conducted in a violent manner and the police did not hesitate to use tear gas on the IRNA journalists who were there to support Javanfekr. According to an IRNA statement, “the director of the newspaper Iran, Mosayb Naimi, and several journalists were wounded or arrested” during the raid. Naimi was released hours later. It is not yet known what happened to the other detained journalists.
Javanfekr was himself detained and handcuffed, but was released following President Ahmadinejad’s direct intervention.
A court sentenced Javanfekr to a year in prison on 20 November in connection with a controversial supplement about the chador that the newspaper Iran, which Javanfekr used to run, published on 13 August.
A two-month suspension was meanwhile imposed on Etemad on 19 November because its latest issue including an interview in which Javanfekr was very critical of many of Ayatollah Khamenei’s close supporters including prosecutor general Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejehi, intelligence minister Heydar Moslehi and parliamentary speaker Ali Larijani.
In the interview, he protested against the harassment of certain close Ahmadinejad supporters, saying: “Keeping prisoners in individual cells is forbidden under Iranian law.” He also said the Ahmadinejad administration was not responsible for the mistreatment of detainees and did not control the intelligence ministry. Now one of Ahmadinejad’s staunchest supporters, Javanfekr used to be a senior intelligence ministry official and a member of Ayatollah Khamenei’s office in the 1990s.
This is the second time that Etemad has been suspended in the past 20 months. Previously suspended on 1 March 2010 on the orders of the Press Licensing and Surveillance Commission, an offshoot of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, it was allowed to resume publishing on 19 June 2011. Edited by Elyass Hazrati, a former parliamentarian and Revolutionary Guard, commander, Etemad supports the reformists.
“Etemad’s crime was to publish comments by a presidential adviser, a government official, criticizing other government officials,” Reporters Without Borders said. “The judicial system ordered this newspaper’s closure for ‘publishing false information.’ Although it was the head of the government news agency IRNA who accused the government and former officials of torture, it is the reformist newspaper that is punished. Independent newspapers and journalists are the real victims of this power struggle within the leadership.”
Rahman Gahremanpour Benab, a pro-Ahmadinejad journalist who worked for Hamshahri Diplomatic and Tehran e Emrooz and as a researcher at a government strategy centre, was arrested on 1 June on a spying charge and was placed in Tehran’s Evin prison. He was arrested at the same time as three Turkish university academics who were freed 13 days later. There has been no news of Benab since his arrest.

The U.N. General Assembly on Monday passed an annual resolution condemning alleged human rights abuses in Iran with a record number of votes in support.
The assembly also passed resolutions condemning human rights in North Korea and Myanmar. All received record high backing.
The Iran vote came only three days after the General Assembly condemned an alleged plot to assassinate the Saudi Arabian ambassador to Washington -- a plot which the United States accuses Iran of masterminding.
The 193-member assembly passed the resolution condemning "torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment" by Iranian authorities with 86 votes in favor, six more than last year, 32 against, down eight from 2010, and 59 abstentions.
The resolution, proposed by Canada, condemned "flogging and amputations" carried out in Iran and deplored a "dramatic increase" in the use of the death penalty, particularly against minors. Many human rights groups say events have deteriorated in Iran over the past year.
Iranian government representative, Mohammad Javad Larijani, an advisor to the country's supreme leader, called the resolution "substantially unfounded and intentionally malicious" in a speech to the General Assembly's human rights committee.
Syria, which faces a special human rights vote on Tuesday over its deadly crackdown on opposition protests, spoke out strongly for its Iranian ally.
The North Korea vote was passed with 112 votes in favor, 16 against and 55 abstentions. On Myanmar the vote was 98 in favor, 25 against with 63 abstentions.
The assembly raised "very serious concern" over the "torture" and "inhuman conditions of detention, public executions, extra judicial and arbitrary detention" in North Korea.
It also condemned the "existence of a large number of prison camps and the extensive use of forced labor."
The Myanmar resolution welcomed recent talks between democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi and the military-dominated government, the release of some political prisoners and other changes over the past year.
But the General Assembly said there were still "systematic violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms."
It highlighted "arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, rape and other forms of sexual violence, torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment." It also raised concerns about the treatment of ethnic minorities such as the Karen people.
Western nations, which have sanctions against Myanmar, have sought to encourage the tentative reforms started by the government. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is to hold talks in Myanmar next month.
Myanmar's U.N. ambassador U Than Swe highlighted the government's efforts towards "building a flourishing, democratic society."
"We do deserve warm, welcome, kind understanding and sincere encouragements of the international community rather than unconstructive approach by adopting such resolutions," he told the assembly.
In a statement, Britain's Foreign Secretary William Hague acknowledged the changes in Myanmar, but said "human rights abuses continue, especially in ethnic areas, and the level of support for this resolution shows once again that the international community has not forgotten the people" of Myanmar.
"The U.N. General Assembly passed these three resolutions by a record majority today, and I welcome the strong signal that sends," Hague said.

It Happened today Tuesday November 15 ,2011 in Toronto - Pen Canada organized a day of Support for Nasrin Sotoudeh, the Iranian imprisoned human rights lawyer and ..../ with Wearing the shirt with the picture of Nasrin Sotoudeh and her picture in hand, plus flyers , we stoped in three locations in Toronto :Union Station, Dundas Square and Nathan Philip Square , we talked to people and explained her situation and asked them for solidarity to hold Nasrin's picture in their hand and our photojournalist took their picture - many people said yes for taking a picture with Nasrin's picture in their hand. We achieved our goal - Thanks to Pen Canada and its program manager Brendan de Caires - Thanks to Rita the photojournalist -and thanks to Ayub and Meghdad and all others. Iranian journalist Hassan Fathi is arrested for speaking with BBC Farsi news about explosion!

On last Saturday in one of Sepah's ammunition barack in suburb of Tehran ( Alborz region) huge explosion occured which shook the residents in villages around and as well Tehran the capital of Iran.As a result of explosion and as reported 17 member of Sepah ( Revolutionary Guards )lost their life and one of those killed was a commander- major general Hassan Moghadam and many are also believed wounded.Mr. Hassan Fathi was invited from Iran by BBC Farsi to attened in pannel discussion via phone about the explosion.According to Fars News agency Mr. Fathi was arrested after speaking with BBC Farsi. Mr. Fathi is arrested on charges of "Publicity of lies to disturb the peace and public order ".

Saham News has reported that,Mehran Faraji journalist is sentenced to six months jail and six months suspended sentence.

Branch number 36 of appeal court sentenced Mehran Faraji the reporter of Sharq Newspaper on social issues to six months jail and six months suspended sentence. Faraji is charged with publicity against the Islamic Republic system .

According to Saham News, while visiting his family in the city of Qazvin on December 9,2010 , Faraji was arrested by agents of the Ministry of information and was transfered to ward number 209 of the Evin prison.After spending 2 months imprisonment he was released on a 100 milion Tuman bail.

Mr. Mehran Faraji has worked for "Etemad Melli" newspaper, ISNA , ILNA and " Kargozaran " newspaper.
